“My husband and I weren’t getting along for years. I was ready to leave but stayed in the relationship because of our kids. Christine taught us how to clean-up our act as a couple. Now we are more ourselves and are free to love each other even more than when we first met. The whole family is happier.”
Mary, age 48
Christine Harris, MSW, LCSW, LISW-CP, NQSW, has been providing psychotherapeutic services for individuals (adults and children), couples and families for over 20 years. In addition to maintaining a private practice, she has also worked as a consultant for a wide-range of organizations including hospitals, senior citizen agencies, brain injury and disability centers, pediatric care programs, as well as programs providing specialized care for challenging illnesses like HIV+, AIDS and cancer.
Upon completion of her Master’s of Social Work degree at New York University, Christine continued her traditional professional development by further studies in Family Therapy, Gestalt, Cognitive, Psychodynamic, Guided Imagery, Autogenic Relaxation, and Focusing.
But then, something changed…
In 1999, Christine’s family moved to Galway, Ireland where she again built a successful private practice and, always in tune with the time and place, Christine was introduced to the fast growing alternative movement. Due to her openness and ability to incorporate new theories and ideas into her traditional practice, Christine found even more successful outcomes in treatment. It was in Ireland that Christine began studying and working with homeopaths, bio-energy workers, acupuncturists, other forms of energy medicine and was introduced to the additional healing properties of mindfulness (sometimes called ‘insight’) meditation.
Christine learned something else from opening her heart and mind. Each client (and/or client group) has diverse needs that require unique, individual treatment. And that this complex world has complex problems – tough issues that need new ways of thinking, communicating and handling. She began to use her entire knowledge and skill background to make the right connections for her clients so they could ‘heal’ much faster developing a map and tool box to additionally, teach them how to use their own inner skills to get support for their future needs.
Her expertise, experience and skill, not to mention easy, humorous connection with others, led to her becoming sought after in the community to be a spokesperson on different aspects of mental health. Along with providing lectures, she taught classes in counseling and psychology at the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG) and wrote a featured monthly column on positive health practices for a national magazine.
She has presented on topics as varied as alcoholism, immigrant psychotherapeutic needs, spirituality and healing, and eating disorders.
Returning her base to the US in 2009, Christine continues to advance in her career as an author and as a psychotherapist. She offers specialized services to both sides of the Atlantic including phone consultations, workshops and lecture series. An opportunity to sit in on her workshops or if you are fortunate to access a phone consultations is not to be missed.
